More Geelong families will have access to GMHBA’s health care network with the relocation of South Barwon Medical Centre (SBMC) into the burgeoning growth corridor of Grovedale.

The new purpose-fit facility will offer an improved patient experience, with facilities designed to support growing demand for comprehensive medical and allied health services under the one roof. Importantly, SBMC will continue to welcome all patients, whether they are GMHBA members or not.

Key upgrades include:

  • Six modern GP consulting room
  • Dedicated Physiotherapy room
  • Three bed patient treatment room
  • Dedicated Nurse care plan room
  • Spacious reception and wait area

Chief Operating Officer (Health and Branch Network) Natalie Lanarus said the clinic also featured future-proofed consulting rooms for specialists and allied health, with the option to welcome other modalities. A pathology collection lab is also located at the site, making it easier for patients to access diagnostic services in one convenient location.

“We are planning for the future, making sure everyone in our community has access to the healthcare they need, when and where they need it,” she said.

“Our patients are at the heart of this decision. They will continue to see the same care teams they know and trust, with a strong focus on making the transition as smooth as possible.”

More than 4,000 patients currently rely on SBMC, supported by a dedicated team of GPs, nurses and support staff.

Refreshing SBMC’s clinical offer with a coordinated care approach follows the opening of GMHBA’s Hubs in Belmont and Geelong in recent years, which offer contemporary and inviting integrated healthcare clinics.

With rapid population growth across Grovedale, Charlemont, Mount Duneed, Armstrong Creek and surrounding areas1, the new centre represents a significant investment in the region’s future health needs.

SBMC Practice Manager Honor Ringwald said the team was excited about the move.

“This is a really positive step forward for our patients and for our community,” she said.

“We’re proud of the relationships we’ve built over many years, and it’s incredibly important to us that patients continue to feel supported, known and cared for.

“The new Grovedale location gives us the opportunity to create a space that truly reflects the way we deliver care today, more connected, more accessible, and designed around our patients’ needs. We’re excited to welcome both existing and new patients into a centre that will support the health of this growing community well into the future.”
