GMHBA has been recognised for delivering outstanding value to Australians, receiving a National Outstanding Value Award (for the second year running) and a State Packages Award for South Australia in the 2026 Canstar Health Insurance Awards.
The awards recognise insurers offering strong value through a combination of price, features and benefits, with Canstar highlighting GMHBA's commitment to supporting members through flexible cover options and lower out-of-pocket costs.
GMHBA is the only major fund in Australia that charges no excess on same-day hospital admissions across all available hospital products^, removing a key financial barrier and helping more people get the care they need, when they need it. Eligible GMHBA members who require common day procedures like colonoscopies, endoscopies, eye surgeries, infusions and more will have the excess waived, in contrast to many larger insurers, which can charge up to $750 in excess for a single day in hospital.
GMHBA Chief Executive Officer Jarrod Coysh said the recognition reflected the organisation's focus on providing practical value for members.
“Being recognised by Canstar as a national award winner is a strong endorsement of our commitment to members,” Mr Coysh said.
“At GMHBA, we're focused on making private health insurance more accessible and better value for all Australians. As a not-for-profit, we're able to reinvest in our products, services and healthcare experiences to deliver better outcomes for our members.”
Canstar also highlighted GMHBA's SmartCare Extras range, which provide members with a flexible annual limit that can be used across included services according to individual needs. Members can claim 100 per cent back on preventive dental services and 60 per cent back on other included extras services, while package products also include optical cover and the ability to roll over unused annual limits into the following year.
Mr Coysh said the award reinforced GMHBA's longstanding focus on putting members first.
“Australians want confidence they're receiving genuine value from their health cover, particularly as household budgets remain under pressure,” he said.
“As a member-owned health insurer, our focus is on delivering cover that is easy to use, flexible and responsive to our members' needs. Recognition from an independent ratings agency like Canstar provides important validation that we're achieving that.”
Founded in Geelong and serving members across Australia, GMHBA continues to invest in products, services and healthcare experiences that improve affordability, accessibility and health outcomes.
