GMHBA has paid more than half a billion dollars in hospital, medical and ancillary claims for members over the past financial year, while recording the strongest membership growth in its 92-year history.

The not-for-profit health insurer published its annual results today, revealing it had paid $425 million in hospital and medical claims, alongside a further $119 million in ancillary claims, supporting more than 130,600 hospital admissions and funding almost 71,000 surgeries during the 2025-26 financial year.

At the same time, GMHBA increased total memberships by 7 per cent, covering 337,720 Australians, while the number of new membership policies increased by 94 per cent compared with the previous year, almost doubling the number of new policies written.

As part of its commitment to affordability, GMHBA maintained the lowest average premium increase of any Australian health insurer at 1.98 per cent, remaining below the industry average for the fourth consecutive year.

Board Chair Claire Higgins said the results demonstrated GMHBA's commitment to delivering meaningful value for members at a time when Australians continue to face cost-of-living pressures.

“The true measure of our success is the value we deliver to members when they need us most,” she said. “These outcomes, combined with our record membership growth, reflect the trust members place in us and our unwavering focus on affordable products, quality care and exceptional service.”

The strong performance follows several years of investment in product innovation, healthcare services, technology and organisational capability, including the launch of new Extras products GMHBA SmartCare and Frank Bundables in 2026, which have played a significant role in driving membership growth.

Chief Executive Officer Jarrod Coysh said GMHBA's integrated approach to health insurance and healthcare positioned the organisation strongly for the future.

"I am proud to have joined an organisation with this level of performance.  Sustainable growth is the outcome of creating genuine value for members. We have invested heavily in making our products more competitive, expanding access to healthcare services and providing more personalised support throughout our members' health journeys,” he said.

"As a not-for-profit organisation, every decision we make is guided by our purpose of improving the health and wellbeing of our members and communities."

GMHBA also continued to expand its healthcare footprint, delivering more than 131,000 occasions of care across its health and branch network, including:

  • 59,652 GP appointments
  • 53,651 eye care customer interactions
  • 11,151 dental consultations
  • 6,935 physiotherapy consultations
  • 1,348 care coordination and health program referrals

Beyond healthcare, GMHBA invested in community initiatives, including expanding support for The Resilience Project to reach 4,065 students across 11 schools, supporting 2,750 young people through Read the Play programs, and contributing more than 433 volunteer hours to community causes.

GMHBA remains focused on strengthening member value through continued investments in products, technology, healthcare services and digital capability, while maintaining the affordability and personalised service that have helped drive the organisation's record growth.
