What's an annual limit?

An annual limit is the total amount available to claim for a service or group of services on your extras cover each calendar year. SmartCare Extras uses a flexible annual limit (also known as a Smart Limit), allowing you to use your available benefits across eligible services such as general dental, chiro, osteo and physio, based on your individual health needs.

What’s a sub-limit?

A sub-limit is a separate cap on how much you can claim for a specific service or group of services on your extras cover, such as dental, physiotherapy or chiropractic, within your overall annual limit. Once you reach that service limit, you can’t claim more for that treatment until the next annual limits reset date - even if you have limits remaining for other services. With GMHBA SmartCare Extras you can choose cover with or without sub-limits.

What’s a per person limit?

Per person limits mean each member included on the policy has their own benefit limits and the flexibility to use their included extras benefits on the services they need most. SmartCare Extras keeps things simple with per person limits for all services.

What is annual limit rollover?

Annual limit rollover lets you carry forward unused annual limits (excluding optical) for up to 12 months, helping you get more value from your extras cover. Annual limits reset on 1 January each year, and you'll need to use your current year's limit before accessing any rolled-over benefits.

To be eligible, you'll need to hold combined hospital and SmartCare Boost Extras cover at the same level (Starter, Everyday or Complete) for at least 12 continuous months. Once you've reached 12 months of membership, any eligible unused limits can start rolling over from the next annual limit reset date.*
