GMHBA has once again been recognised by leading consumer comparison site Canstar, taking home six awards for providing outstanding value health insurance in 2025.
The not-for-profit health fund was named the Outstanding Value Award winner for Hospital Insurance (Australia), a first for the brand, and received Outstanding Value Awards for Hospital & Extras Insurance across five states – New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Victoria.
This latest achievement marks the fourth consecutive year GMHBA has been recognised by Canstar, cementing the organisation’s reputation as one of Australia’s leading providers of high-value health insurance.
GMHBA’s award-winning hospital and extras cover is designed around real member needs, offering flexibility, choice, and value. The not-for-profit insurer is still the only major fund to provide no excess for same-day hospital stays, plus emergency ambulance coverage and an upgrade option after an accident, giving members peace of mind when it matters most. Its SmartCare Extras range complements this with tailored options for everyday health needs, helping members take control of their cover and live healthier, worry-free lives.
The recognition comes as GMHBA continues to roll out its “Caring since 1934” campaign, celebrating more than 90 years of supporting Australians with affordable, community-focused health cover.
GMHBA Chief Executive Officer David Greig said the awards reinforce GMHBA’s unwavering focus on delivering quality health cover that balances care with cost.
“Winning Canstar Awards for four years running is an outstanding endorsement of the value GMHBA provides to our members,” he said.
“As a regional not-for-profit, GMHBA is proud to receive national recognition for its hospital cover. Achieving this in a highly competitive market, against some of the country’s largest insurers, highlights the value, quality, and member-focused approach that sets GMHBA apart.”
In FY25 alone, GMHBA supported members through 126,685 hospital admissions, 69,277 surgeries and the arrival of 608 babies, paying out more than $531 million in benefits.
“In today’s environment, affordability and trust are critical. These awards confirm that Australians can rely on GMHBA to deliver flexible, reliable cover that supports their health and wellbeing, without unnecessary cost,” Mr Greig added.
While GMHBA has long been known for its strong presence in Victoria, the five state-based Canstar Awards demonstrate that its value proposition resonates with members across the country.
“To be recognised nationally and across five states is proof that GMHBA is delivering products that meet the needs of Australians everywhere, whether they’re families, singles or couples, in metro areas or regional towns,” Mr Greig said.
GMHBA’s ongoing recognition by Canstar highlights the strength of its offering while staying true to its roots as a not-for-profit, community-focused health fund.
