What do running, a hospital and your health have in common? Lots actually! Learn the basics of jogging and get involved in the Run 4 Geelong community fundraiser.

To raise funds for Barwon Health, GMHBA and the Barwon Health Foundation have joined forces to support the 2023 Run 4 Geelong on 12 November.

Most people in the Geelong region, or someone they know and love, have attended Barwon Health for urgent or lifesaving care. It’s a great opportunity to give back to the service that cares for so many.

Run, walk or roll. There’s an event for everyone:

  • Walk or run 10km + 5km
  • Under 12’s kids 1km fun run
  • Run Paw Geelong

100% of your registration fees support Barwon Health. Participants can select which area of the health service they would like their registration fee to support, from Barwon Health’s Andrew Love Cancer Centre, Our Hospital, Mental Health, Women’s and Children’s Health or another service close to their heart.

GMHBA members receive 10% off any entry for Run 4 Geelong using promo code: GMHBA10

Getting started with running

Whether you’re a brisk walker, a shuffler, a jogger or long distance runner, getting your heart rate up through movement is a fantastic way to improve your cardiovascular health.

You can build strong bones, strengthen your muscles and improve your mental health by running, jogging or walking regularly. Movement increases the good mood chemicals, your memory and your ability to learn.

Plus, running can be done at your own pace, in your own time and its free!

If you’re new to running, or recovering from injury or illness, chat with your health care provider before getting started.

Strength exercises from home

Starting from scratch?  Why not try a low impact exercise video program you can do from home.

Guided by Bree Filippone, an exercise scientist, each 20-minute workout can be done with basic equipment, starting with a warmup followed by low impact exercise. You’ll also get advice on how to make the exercise easier or more challenging depending on your needs and ability.
