Australia’s fastest growing health insurer, GMHBA, has today announced the appointment of Jarrod Coysh as its next Chief Executive Officer.
Jarrod will transition into GMHBA in the first quarter of the new financial year, following the previously announced decision of current CEO David Greig to step down.
Jarrod Coysh has served as Chief Executive Officer of REI Super since July 2019, leading the fund’s operations with a strong focus on delivering optimal retirement outcomes and customer services for members. He brings a combination of strategic leadership and financial services experience, including a background in banking and strategy, and earlier experience at Boston Consulting Group.
GMHBA Chair Claire Higgins said the Board was pleased to appoint Jarrod following a rigorous selection process.
“Jarrod brings a compelling combination of personal style, strategic capability, financial expertise and a strong understanding of member-based organisations,” Ms Higgins said.
“His leadership experience, together with his background in banking and strategy, means he is well placed to lead GMHBA in a complex and highly regulated environment. Importantly, Jarrod’s values and leadership approach align strongly with GMHBA’s member-first culture. We are confident he will lead the organisation into its next phase of growth.”
GMHBA is an award‑winning, not-for-profit private health insurer with a strong focus on community wellbeing and empowering members to live healthier lives.
In the past 12 months GMHBA's focus on delivering value for members has been recognised through national awards from Canstar, Finder and WeMoney for affordability, flexibility and customer satisfaction. This recognition comes as GMHBA continues to ease cost-of-living pressure for members, announcing the industry's lowest average premium increase of 1.98 per cent in 2026; the fourth consecutive year its increase has been below the industry average.
Jarrod Coysh said it was a genuine privilege to join GMHBA.
“For more than 90 years, this organisation has stood as one of Australia's most trusted not-for-profit health insurers, grounded in community, guided by strong values, and focused above all on its members,” he said.
“I have great respect for the people and culture that have shaped GMHBA over nine decades, and I look forward to working with the team to build on those strong foundations.”
Ms Higgins thanked David Greig for his contribution, commending his integrity, clarity and a deep sense of purpose, always putting members and community at the centre of every decision
“David has guided GMHBA through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic leading with resilience, care and decisiveness during a time of significant uncertainty for our people, members, patients and the broader health system.
“Under David’s leadership, GMHBA has been transformed; strengthening our foundations, embracing innovation and delivering sustained growth, all while staying true to our not-for-profit purpose. On behalf of the Board, I want to sincerely thank David for his outstanding leadership, his generosity of spirit and the lasting impact he has made on this organisation.”
Ahead of his departure, David has acknowledged the Board, Executive Management and Senior Leadership Team thanking them for their trust, counsel and partnership over the past five years.
“I would like to thank the Board for their support, leadership and counsel,” he said.
“Over the past five years, it has been a privilege to lead and work with such a highly credentialed Board and a talented, committed team across the organisation.”
