Supporting the communities who support us

Being at the heart of healthy communities means that we nurture an ethos of giving to local causes across our business and amongst our employees. We run a number of programs that engage our members, employees and the wider community to improve health and wellbeing.

We are genuinely concerned about doing the right thing for our members and the communities we serve. In the last financial year, we demonstrated this through programs, partnerships and activities.

Employee Engagement

Giving back is part of the culture at GMHBA and we’re very proud of the way our employees participate and get involved. In the past financial year, our employees increased their engagement in our community initiatives by a 6% increase in participation in volunteer activities and a 7% increase in workplace giving contributions to Give Where You Live.

There are numerous opportunities for employees to get involved including a number of groups that help to bring community to life internally at GMHBA. These groups include our Employee Community Ambassadors Committee, Green Team and Community Harvest.

Community Harvest

The GMHBA Community Harvest is a rooftop vegetable garden located at our head office and run entirely by our employee volunteers. All vegetables produced are donated to support a local food relief agency. That’s what we call giving back!

Community Partnerships

Over 60 not for profit organisations and charities were supported through various GMHBA programs and initiatives in the past financial year. Included are four key partnerships with the Barwon Health Hospital Appeal, Geelong Connected Communities, Give Where You Live and Karingal BacLinks.

We partner with trusted and respected local community organisations who work tirelessly to support local communities and continually strive for health equality, fostering engagement, embracing diversity and valuing the environment.
