Paying your premium

Making a payment with GMHBA is easy. 

Your premiums can be paid using any of the following payment method options:

  • Pay via the GMHBA app – simply log in and head to 'Make a payment'.
  • Pay online – you can make a one-off payment via credit card in your secure member area, or via the BPay facility of your financial institution.
  • Pay by phone – payments can be made by credit card over the phone using NAB Transact, simply phone 1300 238 959. Alternately, you can use the BPay facility of your financial institution.
  • GMHBA branches – payments can be made by cheque or EFTPOS. Branches are unable to accept cash payments.
  • Australia Post – payments can be made in cash, cheque or EFTPOS when you present your billing notice at any Australia Post office with the Billpay facility.
  • Mail – payments must be made by cheque, money order or credit card. Please do not send cash by mail.

When making a direct payment either in person, by mail, via BPay or over the phone using NAB Transact, you must present your billing notice. A billing notice will be sent to you if your premium is paid direct to GMHBA, either monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly in advance.

Regular payment options

Direct debit

Billing and reminder notices are not sent if you pay by automatic direct debit.

To set up direct debit payment, choose this option when you join, or download the Direct Debit Service Agreement form and return it to GMHBA.

Need to change which account your payments are debited from? You can update these details in the GMHBA app or online member area at any time.

Update payment details


Depending on your cover*, you may be eligible for a 2% discount if your premiums are deducted directly from your bank, credit union or building society account.

*The GMHBA hospital, extras and packaged covers listed below are not eligible for a direct debit discount:

Hospital covers: Bronze Essential Hospital, Silver Core Hospital, Silver Plus Classic Hospital and Gold Ultimate Hospital.

Extras covers (only available combined with the hospital covers above): Core Extras, Essential Extras and Premium Extras.

Credit card

When you choose this option, your premiums are automatically debited from your MasterCard or Visa credit card each month, quarter, half-year or year – whichever you prefer. Please note that automatic payments from a credit card do not attract the direct debit discount. Billing and reminder notices are not sent if you pay by automatic credit card debit.

To set up credit card payment, you can choose this option when you join or update your payment type at any time in the GMHBA app or online member area. You can also contact us to update your payment details.

Please note that automatic payments from a credit card do not attract the direct debit discount. If you update your payment details from direct debit to credit, this may impact any premium discounts you have.
