Our Community

Our mission is to support the health of our communities for generations.

As a regionally based health fund, being community minded is inherent in our culture. GMHBA is committed to supporting our local community and embraces opportunities to connect with our members and broader community in positive and meaningful ways.

We continue to refine and grow our community engagement strategy to ensure that we are delivering exceptional programs that drive real change and improvements to the health and wellbeing of our local communities.

Active Geelong

GMHBA is excited to be partnering with Active Geelong to improve the physical activity levels of our local community. Active Geelong's vision is to get Geelong moving with the ‘movement movement’ to make Geelong Australia's most active city.

GMHBA is providing the community leadership for Active Geelong. In collective impact terms, GMHBA is the backbone organisation providing support for the successful delivery of Active Geelong.

Physical activity can help prevent cardio vascular disease, type 2 diabetes, depression and anxiety, hypertension, obesity and certain cancers including colon and breast.

Active Geelong is a collaborative project that brings together leading businesses, doctors, researchers and individuals to address inactivity in the Geelong region.

Healthy Heroes

The Healthy Heroes program is a joint initiative of GMHBA and Geelong Cats that aims to empower young people to make good choices about their health and wellbeing. It is a one-hour program designed specifically for Grade 3 and 4 students focusing on nutrition, water, exercise and screen time.

Community partnerships

GMHBA partners with a number of organisations to support the health and wellbeing of our community, with a particular focus on physical activity, mental health, nutrition and engagement.

We partner with trusted and respected local community organisations who work tirelessly to support local communities and continually strive for health equality, fostering engagement, embracing diversity and valuing the environment.

Employee engagement

Giving back is part of the culture at GMHBA and we’re very proud of the way our employees participate and get involved. There are numerous opportunities for employees to get involved including one day paid volunteer leave per year and workplace giving to Give Where You Live Foundation.

Our employees’ participation is consistently above national benchmarks, demonstrating an eagerness on the part of our staff to give back to their community.
