New eye care technology

Did you know GMHBA has recently opened a new optometry practice in Leopold? This practice has some of the latest high tech optometry equipment allowing us to better diagnose, manage and monitor a variety of eye conditions.

Not only are we excited, so are Geelong Cats superstars Tom Hawkins and Mark Blicavs!

Do you suffer from dry, burning, sore or watery eyes?

eye-care-image-1.jpgThese symptoms are often caused by a condition known as dry eye. At GMHBA Eyecare Leopold we can now better determine the underlying cause of your dry eye with our new Oculus Keratograph. This device is a revolution in dry eye technology and can closely analyse your tear film to help determine the root cause of your dry eye problem.  By determining the underlying cause, your optometrist can tailor the most appropriate treatment regimen to help improve your symptoms. Better yet, our Oclus Keratagraph is completely non-invasive and requires no drops or coloured dyes!

Are you interested in contact lenses?

The Oculus Keratograph device is also very useful for current contact lens wearers as well as patients interested in trialling contact lenses for the first time. This device can map the curvature and shape of your cornea allowing us to determine the ideal contact lens for the shape of your eye. This will maximise your comfort and vision.  For patients requiring more complex contact lens fits such as rigid gas permeable and mini scleral lenses, our new Oculus Keratograph is the perfect tool also.

Often patients requiring more complex contact lens fits, have underlying degenerative corneal disease such as keratoconus.  Using the Oculus Keratograph’s mapping technology, these conditions can now be better diagnosed and monitored.

Have you ever had your retina photographed?

If you have ever had your eyes examined, chances are you may have had your retina photographed. Your retina is a thin layer of tissue which lines the back of the eye. It contains millions of light sensitive photoreceptor cells that respond to light and allow you to see.

Having your retina photographed on a regular basis is an extremely useful tool as it allows us to better identify signs of retinal disease.

We are excited about the launch of GMHBA Eyecare Leopold because, not only do we have a retinal camera, we also have a new Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT).

What is an Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT)?

OCT is like retinal photography, only it tells us so much more. OCT is fabulous in the diagnosis and monitoring of retinal conditions such macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. OCT works by capturing a high-resolution cross sectional scan of your retina.  Where retinal photography only shows us the inner most layer of the retina, OCT shows us in incredible detail, the multiple layers comprising this part of the eye.   These scans can then be used for both earlier detection and better management of glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and other retinal conditions.
