What do general dental options include?

When it comes to general dental health insurance options for single parents, at GMHBA we have you covered. Like most health funds, we offer both hospital and extras cover. Hospital insurance covers you for when you are admitted to hospital, for both elective treatments and accidents and emergencies. Extras insurance covers you for those health treatments you usually receive away from hospital, like dental, optical, physiotherapy and podiatry. General dental health insurance options for single parents come under extras cover. General dental cover provides benefits for usually uncomplicated procedures like fillings and simple extractions, as well as examinations and diagnostic tests such as x-rays.

There is another form of dental cover – major dental – which focuses on treatments like root canals, bridgework, dentures and complicated extractions. At GMHBA, all our extras policies include general dental cover, including our main three – Gold, Silver and Bronze. Each cover offers different levels of treatment and all of them can help you with peace of mind when it comes to visiting a dentist. We all know dentists can be expensive, and Medicare generally doesn’t cover dental treatments, unless your children are eligible for the public Child Dental Benefits Schedule.

Our Gold and Silver covers also offer major dental, and our Bronze cover is an ideal option if you want to be covered for the popular treatments and services such as general dental and optical. All our general dental health insurance options for single parents have waiting periods of two months, and they also have annual limits, which is the maximum amount you can claim per calendar year. Higher levels of covers generally have higher annual limits. All three of our general dental health insurance options for single parents have different benefit levels. With our Gold cover, you can claim back 75% of your treatment, meaning if the dentist charges you $100 for a filling, you can claim $75 back, if you have not already reached your annual limit and your cover is up to date. With our Silver cover the benefit level is 65%, and with Bronze it is 55%.

Why is preventative dental important?

Preventative treatments are an important part of general dental health insurance options for single parents. We understand how important it is for your family to keep on top of their dental health. Preventative visits to the dentist can help prevent decay, and can help dentists pick up small problems before they become larger, more expensive ones. Given that half of all 12 year olds have tooth decay, preventative treatment can be important. It’s not just children who need to focus on their oral health, with 30% of adults also having untreated tooth decay. Oral health can be important for a lot of reasons, especially as it can be associated with poor overall health.

At GMHBA, our general dental cover has a focus on preventative treatments, with benefits provided for check-ups and up top three plaque-removal treatments a year. When it comes to families, we want to give you the best cover we can, and our Family Packages offer both hospital and extras cover. There are three different package available to suit varying needs, but when it comes to preventative dental, they are all comprehensive. They offer 100% benefits for preventative dental treatment, which is a great way to encourage you and your family to stay on top of your health.
