Would you like a health fund that is not-for-profit and focuses on returning any surpluses into better premiums and a wide range of treatments and benefits? Perhaps you would prefer a health fund that works with the community on projects that focus on wellbeing and innovation. Maybe the best health insurance plan to switch to is one that has easy-to-claim benefits, so easy you can even do them on your smart phone. Whatever your reason, finding the best health insurance plan to switch to starts with working out what cover is best for you. Look at your lifestyle, your current health situation and what treatments or services you think you are likely to use in the next couple of years. From here you can work to find the plan that suits you and your budget best. GMHBA also takes choice seriously, so if any of the above reasons are why you are looking for the best health insurance plan to switch to, then read on.

What switch to

As mentioned above, GMHBA can offer you choice, no matter what level of care you are after. That is just one of the reasons coming to us to find the best health insurance plan to switch to can be a good move. There are two kinds of health covers – hospital and extras. Hospital covers you for when you are admitted to hospital, either in an emergency or for elective treatment. Extras cover provides benefits for the other non-hospital health treatments, like dental, physiotherapy and optical, and much more. GMHBA has three main hospital and three main extras policies, and to keep it simple we have called them Gold, Silver and Bronze. As the names suggest, they are three different levels of cover.  As a general rule the higher the level of cover, the higher the benefits and treatment coverage. Our hospital policies are designed to give you peace of mind and fit into different budgets. Our Bronze cover, for example, can cover you as a private patient at a public hospital. That allows us to keep premiums low and you can still be covered for treatments and services when you need them.

When it comes to choosing the best health insurance plan to switch to for your hospital cover, our Silver and Gold covers are popular. That’s because they offer coverage for both private and public hospital stays. The reason this can be important is because choosing to be treated in a private hospital can have benefits. First among them is being able to choose the doctor or specialist you want. A close second is that by being treated in a private hospital you can avoid public hospital elective surgery waiting lists. If extras cover is the reason you are looking for the best health insurance plan to switch to, then you can find one at GMHBA. Our three main extras policies offer either set benefits or percentage benefits. Benefits are the amount you can claim back on treatments.

By choosing a set benefit, you know exactly how much you can claim back on each treatment. Set benefit policies usually have lower premiums. Our Gold extras cover offers benefits of 75%, our Silver 65% and our Bronze 55%. So, for example, if you had our Gold extras cover, and a dentist charged you $100 for a filling, you can claim $75 back, as long as your cover is up to date and you have not reached your annual limits. Annual limits are the maximum you can claim on individual treatments each calendar year. They usually differ depending on your level of cover.

If your reason for looking for the best health insurance plan to switch to is to find both extras and hospital cover, then we can also help you out. You can mix and match all our Gold, Silver and Bronze policies to suit you and your budget. This flexibility also means you can upgrade your policy at any time, with waiting periods and annual limits in mind.
