Silver Hospital Cover (SH0, SH1, SH2)
GMHBA's Silver Hospital cover is a great option for people looking to be covered in a private hospital but don't want top hospital cover. By taking out Silver Hospital you reduce your premium as you agree to exclude some services you may not need. Silver Hospital cover is available to families, couples, singles and single parents.
Exclusions
To make our Silver Hospital cover more affordable, no benefits are payable for obstetrics, joint replacement, cataract surgery, cosmetic surgery and IVF and related services. Other than these benefit exclusions, GMHBA's Silver Hospital cover provides all the benefits of Gold Hospital cover.
Excess
Our Silver Hospital cover is available with either:
- Level 0 nil excess (SH0) or
- progressively lower premiums in return for admission excesses of:
- Level 1 $250 (SH1) or
- Level 2 $500 (SH2)

Unlike Gold Hospital cover and Silver Hospital Single Parents cover the excess applies for child dependants on all Silver Hospital covers.
What’s covered?
For services not listed under ‘exclusions’ Silver Hospital provides cover* at participating private hospitals for:
- Accommodation - shared private room
- Theatre
- Intensive and coronary care
- Same day treatment
- Surgically implanted prostheses (Government prescribed benefits)
- Medical gap
- Other agreed charges.
Public hospitals
For services not listed under ‘exclusions’ you are covered* for hospital accommodation costs when you are admitted to a private or shared room (subject to bed availability) as a private patient in a recognised public hospital (less your excess).
Other private hospitals
