Bronze Hospital (BHO, BH1, BH2)

Private and public hospital covers with a money back value guarantee

Our Bronze Hospital cover provides you with cover as a private patient in a public hospital. You can avoid the public hospital waiting list and choose your own doctor. This cover is suitable if you want a basic level of hospital cover to avoid the Medicare Levy Surcharge (seepage 71 for details) or lock in your certified age of entry for Lifetime Health Cover (see pages 61-62 for details).

Excess options

Bronze Hospital cover is available with either:

  • Level 0 nil excess (BH0) or
  • progressively lower premiums in return for excess levels of:
    • Level 1 excess (BH1)
    • Level 2 excess (BH2)

The excess amount is payable once every calendar year. If you don’t have any admissions to hospital you won’t pay any excess. Unlike Gold and Silver family hospital covers the excess applies for child dependants on all Bronze Hospital Covers.

Note:  Hospital excesses for child dependants aged under 21 are payable on Public Hospital cover BH1 and BH2.

What’s covered?
 Public hospitals

Bronze Hospital cover provides cover for accommodation costs when you’re admitted to a shared room in a recognised public hospital less your excess if applicable (subject to bed availability). Limited benefits may apply to high cost drugs. Drugs purchased outside of the hospital are not included.

Private hospitals

Fixed benefits are payable for accommodation in private hospitals. The benefit depends on the type of treatment, accommodation or surgery received and length of the hospital stay. Additional private hospital costs such as theatre and delivery suite charges are not covered by Bronze Hospital cover. Please contact us on 1300 4 GMHBA (46422) for further details.

Additional benefits

In both public and private hospitals, our Bronze

Hospital cover includes benefits for:

  • Medical gap (see Medical Gap Cover).
  • Surgically implanted prostheses - Government prescribed benefits.

Nursing home type patients – Government prescribed benefits are available towards non-acute hospital care.

Broader Health Cover

Bronze Hospital Young Singles Start Package (BHYSZp)

Private and public hospital covers with a money back value guarantee

GMHBA has a new hospital and extras package designed
for young people. For only $9.90* per week, it covers
you for the things you need such as dental, optical, chiro, physio, and ambulance. So if you want cover ‘just in case’, then get the Bronze Hospital Young Singles Start Package.
This package is suitable to avoid the Medicare Levy
Surcharge and lock in your certifi ed age of entry for
Lifetime Health Cover.

* Direct debit half yearly premium including Federal Government 30% Rebate on Private Health Insurance. Excludes Lifetime Health Cover loading.
Exclusions and limits
To make Bronze Hospital Young Singles Start Package (BHYSZp) more affordable, no benefi ts are payable for:
  • eye surgery
  • gastric banding
  • joint replacement
  • renal dialysis
  • obstetrics and IVF and related services. 
Other than these benefit exclusions, GMHBA’s Bronze Hospital Young Singles Start Package (BHYSZp) provides all the benefi ts of Bronze Hospital cover.
Excess
If you’re hospitalised, once you’ve paid the excess you’ll
receive the full benefi ts of Bronze Hospital cover. The
excess is payable once every calendar year. If you pay
the maximum annual excess in a calendar year there are
no more excesses to pay for the remainder of that year
regardless of how many times you may be hospitalised.
If you don’t have any admissions to hospital you won’t pay
the excess.

you can claim on the spot using your GMHBA membership
card at more than 20,000 extras providers throughout
Australia.
