GMHBA Lorne Pier to Pub and Mountain to Surf

The GMHBA Lorne Pier to Pub and Mountain to Surf is fast approaching and GMHBA are excited to be the major sponsor for the 2013 event. GMHBA is proud to be supporting the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club volunteer network and the local community.

Both events are a great way to stay fit and healthy with many people training months in advance to ensure they are prepared.

About the GMHBA Lorne Pier to Pub

The GMHBA Lorne Pier to Pub is the largest open water swim in the world and is organised by volunteers from the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club.  The event is one of the most prestigious open water swims with over 33 years of history.

If you’re swimming for the first time, make sure you practice in the pool and do a couple of open water swims so you know what to expect.

During the swim there are a couple of things you should be aware of:

  • It can get busy at the start of each wave which can result in you being obstructed by other competitors.
  • Ensure you take your time at the start of the race to get your bearings.
  • And if you need help at any stage of the race, put your hand up and someone will come and get you.

When: Saturday 12th January 2013

Where: Lorne Surf Life Saving Club, Lorne Victoria.

Help us raise money for the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club

Over two days during the GMHBA Lorne Pier to Pub and Mountain to Surf, GMHBA will have a marquee set up on the Lorne foreshore where we’ll be running a cycling challenge.

On stationery bikes we’ll be riding down the Great Ocean Road to Warrnambool and back without leaving the beach.

During the challenge, riders will pass certain landmarks and if the target of 420km’s is achieved over the two days, GMHBA will donate a total of $2,000 to purchase a defibrillator for the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club.

To find out more make sure you visit the GMHBA Health Insurance facebook page. Don’t forget to like our page to keep up-to-date with all the latest information about the challenge.
