At GMHBA, we strive to be at the heart of every community that we serve. We bring people and resources together to achieve shared prosperity and add value to their lives.
We are all community minded and genuinely concerned about doing the right thing for our members and the communities we serve. Each year, our employees donate collectively more than $15,000 through a payroll deduction scheme. We also conduct monthly fundraising activities to support a range of local and national causes. In 2011/12, our fundraising activities raised more than $37,000 for local charities.
In 2011/12, our employees donated to the following charity groups:

- Canteen, National Bandana Day
- Prostate Cancer Foundation (Movember) + Beyond Blue
- Make a Wish Australia
- Men’s Shed Organisation
- Clown Doctors (Murray to Moyne)
- Royal Children’s Good Friday hospital appeal
- National Breast Cancer Foundation (Mother’s Day Classic)
- Cystic Fibrosis Australia
Other staff volunteering and initiatives our staff have been involved in are Give Where You Live (Christmas gift wrapping and workplace giving), BacLinks (Workplace Big Day Out), Project Pamper (Geelong and Warrnambool) and the Murray to Moyne (24 hour cycling relay).
Key to our community strategy is employee involvement through volunteering and salary donations. GMHBA employees provide tangible assistance to the community through volunteering programs that help empower and connect people. In 2011/12, GMHBA employees contributed more than 100 volunteer hours to community organisations and projects, via a community partnership with BacLinks.
Our staff also provided skilled expertise to organisations such as Give Where You Live and the Geelong Chamber of Commerce. GMHBA’s Workplace Giving program experienced a 22% increase in the 2011/12 financial year. This increase is attributed to GMHBA employees working as ambassadors for the Workplace Giving program.
