Earlier today, the Minister for Health, Tanya Plibersek, announced the private health insurance industry's premium average increase of 5.6%. GMHBA Limited's average increase is below the industry average at 5.23%.
This is an average across all of GMHBA's products and each product will have a varying adjustment applied. Members will receive notification of their individual premium changes commencing mid-March (effective 1 April 2013).
Our premium changes makes GMHBA a very affordable option, but we have had to increase premiums due to ongoing rises in health care costs and increased claiming.
We believe in building healthy communities and in an attempt to minimise the impacts of long term claiming, we have invested in a number of health initiatives including chronic disease management programs and rehabilitation in the home. Through these efforts, combined with our other health services including fitness and yoga sessions and information seminars, GMHBA will keep premium increases to a level that are still financially responsible.
In an attempt to decrease the costs associated with this communication we will be piloting communication via email for approximately 17,000 memberships who have registered to receive online member communications. We will be advising members through an email notification that they will be able to access their letter by the secure GMHBA Member Self Service Centre.
For those members that would like to register to receive future communications, where possible, by email please register your email address at GMHBA's Member Self Service Centre here.
